We at Newcastle Central Mosque would like to expresse our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims from the dastardly attacks in ?#Paris?. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are affected.
There is no justification for this heinous crime. Any claim from the attackers of being Muslims is illegitimate, as they act against the fundamental teachings of Islam. The attackers are a disgrace to humanity and their actions will only increase violence and lead to more innocent deaths and casualties.
We stand with not only the people of Paris and the victims of terrorism but also with the innocent who are victims from 'The fight against terrorism'. We stand for human dignity, the sanctity of human life and honour of all people regardless of their nationality, religion, colour or race; and we stand against such barbarians wherever they cause havoc, be it Paris, Beirut, Baghdad, Syria or any other place in the world.
At this juncture, we would like to advise everyone to be more vigilant of anti-Muslim prejudice and hate crime. We advise all, but especially the children, women and vulnerable people to be careful as they are the ones who are often targeted of such backlash. We advise people to avoid travelling alone and especially avoid travelling alone in the dark. Be vigilant and wherever possible record and report any hate crime. If you are subject to religious abuse on public transport in Newcastle and Northumbria you can report it to the police by sending a text message to 61016 or calling 0800405040.
Please save these contact numbers on your phone. As advised by the police, please give as much detail as possible such as any bus numbers, routes of travel, descriptions of perpetrators and any other relevant details.
Newcastle is a peaceful city where all inhabitants, irrespective of faith, look after each other and we are confident that it will remain so.
May Allah bless us all with peace, mutual respect, tolerance and harmony.
Assalamu'alaikum (May peace, mercy and blessings be upon you)
